Privacy
Dictation Daily is a free site for English listening practice. This page says what we store about you, why, and how to delete it.
If you don't sign in
We store nothing about you. If you pick a daily goal, it stays in your browser only.
If you sign in with Google
We keep the following, linked to your email address:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your name, email address and profile picture | To show who is signed in and to find your progress |
| Which videos you practised, how far you got, and when | Continuing a lesson, progress bars, My videos |
| For each correct answer: the date and the seconds you spent | Learning time, streaks, your daily goal, the charts on My progress |
| Your daily goal and your time zone | Today's goal ring; local time for streaks and reminders later |
| Your plan (free or Pro), and the date you joined the Pro waitlist | To switch Shadowing on for Pro learners |
| In Shadowing mode: how many lines of a video you have done, and a count of your checks per day | To continue where you left off, and to keep the speech checks within a daily limit |
We never see your Google password, and we can't read your Gmail, Drive or other Google data. The words you type in a lesson are checked in your browser and are not sent to us.
In Shadowing mode you record yourself saying a line. The recording is sent to a speech-to-text model that runs on Cloudflare (Workers AI, Whisper) to find out which words were said clearly, and is then dropped. We do not store your recordings, and nobody listens to them.
Where it is kept, and for how long
On Cloudflare's servers. We keep your data as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, everything above is removed at once. Copies in our backups are deleted within 60 days.
Cookies
One cookie keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It sets no cookies and does not follow you across sites. There is no advertising.
Videos
The videos play from YouTube, which has its own privacy policy.
Your rights
You can download or delete everything we have about you on the Settings page, at any time. For anything else, write to us at support@dictationdaily.com.
